The Georgia International Law Enforcement Exchange (GILEE) is one of the organizations that organize and sponsor these joint trainings. As a joint program of the Georgia State University and local law enforcement, GILEE works to foster cooperation between law enforcement agencies in Georgia and Israel, educating Israeli law enforcement on community policing and training Georgia law enforcement on counter-terrorism. Since its establishment, GILEE has run law enforcement executive development and trainings to enhance homeland security, through 450 programs that reached over 33,000 law enforcement and other executives across over 25 states and 25 countries.

The Police Department of Peachtree City, Georgia, is among the departments that have sent delegates to Israel. Stan Pye has served as a captain in the Peachtree City Police Department since 1997 and as Assistant Chief of Police since 2016. He served as Acting Chief for part of 2015. Assistant Chief Stan Pye attended a GILEE training in Israel in June 2018.

In Israel, law enforcement works with different religious groups to bring them together and to protect their country, Chief Pye remarked about his experience, adding that Israel was “second to none” in information-sharing between their agencies and departments.

According to the local newspaper, Chief Pye was seemingly impressed about the “common training” between law enforcement and the military in Israel, giving an example that line officers in Israel are well-trained in responding to “terrorist” events, as well as commenting on Israeli law enforcement’s “significant technology.”
